Does the ION8xxx support packet routing between modem and ethernet port
The ION8600, 8650 and 8800 meters, in all their feature sets, do not support packet routing between the modem port and the ethernet port.
The meter's modem is intended for a simple serial connection - a point-to-point link. For packet routing between modem and ethernet ports, a device must use a PPP/SLIP layer to encapsulate serial packets to conform to the TCP/IP protocols. The ION8xxx meters do not incorporate the necessary PPP/SLIP components to convert packets this way and, thus, do not support packet routing between the modem port and the ethernet port.
