How can I edit the Vijeo Citect Variable Tags database in Excel ?

To export and handle the Vijeo Citect Variable Tags database in Excel, you need to work on the Variables.dbf file:
  • Make a copy of this file, which is located in:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Citect\Vijeo Citect\User\<Project Name>"
  • Start Excel and open the Variables.dbf file located in your project directory.
  • Open the "Save_dbf.xls" file, which is located in the following directory:
    "C:\Program Files\Citect\Vijeo Citect 7.0\Bin".
This loads the Excel macro which is required for saving files in the correct format.
In some cases you will need to modify the macro security settings in Excel.
To do this, click "Tools > Macro > Security" and select the security level "Low".
  • Add and/or edit the tags in the file and save all changes using the macro.
Caution: Do not resize the columns in Excel.
  • Position the mouse pointer in any cell and click the right-hand mouse button.
  • Choose the "Save/Close DBF" menu to save and close the file .
  • Close Excel and return to the Vijeo Citect Project Editor.
  • Select "File > Pack" and then select "File > Compile".
  • This re-indexes the database and removes deleted records.
  • Check your changes by opening the Variable Tags form.
Alternatively from Vijeo Citect v7.1 onwards you can take advantage of the ProjectDBF Addin for Excel XP, 2003 or 2007.
