    Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS)

    A complex process like a petroleum refinery can have thousands of controllers. A large installation can have >200,000 hardwired inputs and outputs and > 500,000 digital inputs and outputs over the data bus. Advanced process control and on-line optimisation are being increasingly used for maximising the safety and economic performance of the process and is linked to production control.

    Solutions

    An ICSS solution integrates the process control and safety system at all times autonomously, compared to the traditional approach of isolated control and safety systems. ICSS manages and regulates the production process by means of a Distributed Control System (DCS) and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) using proven Foxboro and Triconex systems as well as a Fire and Gas detection System (FGS) and High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) commonly used in complex refinery and petrochemical processes.

    Processes are monitored in the form of visual alarm logs and historical archives. Operators are given real-time information necessary to make proper corrective actions. Should any unwarranted process upset occur despite operator intervention, the affected process units will be shut down automatically by the highly integrated SIS (safety integrated System) and brought to safe condition.

    Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESDs)

    Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESDs) are high reliability and high availability systems that can operate autonomously to bring the complex processes to a safe state in event of any abnormal event.     Integrated Power and Process Management is the integration of systems that control process including emergency shut down, safety systems to the power system for seamless interconnection.
